About

Steven Drapkin, brand strategy consultant and founder of Perception Shapers

We exist to close the gap between what a business has become and how its market still sees it.

The story

Design without strategy is decoration

I started in graphic design and moved to strategy for that reason. Too many brands looked finished and still couldn't say who they were for. Perception Shapers exists to do the part that comes first.

Most companies at the growth stage treat their brand as a communication problem. It's a clarity problem. They can't yet say who they are internally, so they can't project it. We fix the inside before we touch the outside.

We diagnose before we recommend, we align leadership on shared language for the business, and we build a brand it can run on and keep current as it grows.

How we work

Four commitments

We notice what others miss.

Research and the right questions surface what the business can't see from inside.

We say what we actually think.

Plain words and a clear point of view, every time.

We do the deep work.

The positioning and the substance, before anything gets designed.

We hold our standards.

Scope and pace held without drama. We say no when something doesn't fit.

Who we work with

Built for a specific kind of business

We work with owners of established businesses, usually ten or more years in, in any industry, that have grown past the brand they built and can see the market hasn't caught up. It suits leaders who want the diagnosis before the design and will give a day to the workshop. It doesn't suit a business still finding its offer or one in survival mode, and it isn't for anyone who only wants a new logo by Friday.

Let's talk about where the business is going
